St Marks Monster Garage Sale – 12 March 2016

The March Mega St Marks Community Garage Sale was another great community event that offered lots of bargains and great food. Over $5,000 was raised! 50% of that was donated to the cyclone Winston Appeal for Fiji to support that community in great need.

St Marks Mega Garage Sale –  5 September 2015

The September Mega St Marks Community Garage Sale was a great community event that offered lots of bargains and great food.  Over $6,800 was raised!  50% of  that was donated to the Wesley Hospital Research into Prostate Cancer program.  This charity was chosen in part to pay tribute to all those known to us who have succumbed to cancer in recent times, and especially honouring the service of Tony Brown with his leadership of the St Marks Garage Sales over many years.  Thanks for your amazing support Mt Gravatt community.

Mothers Day 2015 High Tea

High Tea was served to around 75 participants including a lot of Mums for Mothers Day.  The St Marks Hall was decorated beautifully  and the food served was wonderfully displayed on the fine English china and high tea plates. A special photography service was part of the day to record the special time with all the Mums. Spoil your Mum next year with a wonderful High Tea experience (either for morning tea or afternoon tea) without the “high” price.  Lots of cups of tea too!

The March Mega St Marks Community Garage Sale and Fete was held on a beautiful autumn morning – another great community event that offered lots of bargains and great food.  The various stalls include books, bric-a-brac, vintage wares, kitchen wares, electrical, hardware, electronics, furniture, plants, clothing, toys, bbq, face painting, jumping castle, theraputic massage sessions and yummy cakes.   Over $5,000 was rasied on the day!  50% of  that was donated to the Scripture Union School Chaplaincy program. Thanks Mt Gravatt community.

25 December 2014 – St Marks Christmas Service 8am

The family Christmas service was held at 8am in the main worship centre to celebrate the birth of Jesus.  We welcomed many visitors and extended families.

21 December 2014 – St Marks Carols on the Court & Christmas Fair

This was again a special community event on Sunday 21 December. The Christmas Fair was held in the hall from 4pm with  free BBQ at 5.30pm and Carols on the Court , with some very special farm animal visitors at 6pm. The Carols centred around the theme of “It Takes a Village”.   There were yummy Christmas baking goodies, food stalls, craft, community groups with stalls, and good coffee. We enjoyed an evening of Carol singing and celebrainge the birth of Jesus with the St Marks Family Community.

   

   

Global Leadership Summit –  24 & 25 October 2014

St Marks Uniting again took a significant group of participants to the Global Leadership Summit (GLS) conference at Gateway Baptist church.  The Global Leadership Summit is a ministry of the Willow Creek church.  Refer to http://www.gls.org.au/ for more information re the GLS.

The summit was a 2 day conference on Friday 24 October and Saturday 25 October, 2014 from 9am to 4pm each day.

The summit was a very rewarding experience with presentations by a wide range of key presenters.

Donation to Grasstree Foundation for Indigenous Leadership Training

The proceeds of the September 2014 Garage Sale of over $2,500 were donated to the Grasstree organisation to support and sponsor young upcoming leaders to attend the Grasstree leadership training program.

 Rev Jock Dunbar’s – Service of Closure & Farewell – 2014

Rev Jock Dunbar completed 5 years of ministry with St Marks Uniting Church on 14 September.  A service of closure was held on Sunday night 14 September and a farewell celebration and dinner was shared with the Dunbar family on Saturday 20 September.  Fabulous entertainment was provided in song, dance, poem, along with wonderful tributes to Jock and his family.  The finale of the St Marks “Van Tropp” singers performing “So Long, Farewell” was a special highlight.   Jock and the whole family will be greatly missed by the people of St Marks and many people in the community of Mt Gravatt.

Dinners of Eight –  July, August, September, October 2014

The first dinner in the Dinners of Eight program was held in July with groups of 8 people meeting for dinner in homes with all participants providing part of the meal each.  It is a great way to meet people from our church but don’t really know that well, or that we haven’t had a chance to catch up with for a while.  The shared meal preparation makes this an easy way to enjoy a special meal together.  The other dinners will continue in August, September and October

August 3rd – Rev. Louise’s Retirement & Closure Service

The service to mark the closure and retirement of Rev Louise Edwards will be held at Broadwater Road on Sunday, August 3 at 4pm. Come and join in this Synod-wide celebration of the ministry of Rev Louise over many years of service to Christ and the Church as well as the years she has shared with St Marks and Broadwater Roads Congregations in more recent times. Please stay and share in dinner together after the service. RSVP to Broadwater Road UC on 3849 8548.

 

August 10th – Aunty Jean

Wwe will be joined by Aunty Jean and Brooke Prentis at the AM and PM services. They will be sharing further the latest news and development of ministry with Indigenous people, and the upcoming Grasstree Gathering scheduled in early October.

 

August 24th – Dr. Van Shore

Dr Van Shore will be our guest at the PM service. Van is a dynamic speaker, with a heart and love for God that comes out in his passion for people and commitment to being “at home with God”. Come expectant for God to speak to you.

 

August 31st – Presbytery Youth Service hosted by St Marks

The evening service will host the Presbytery Youth Service from 6pm followed by dinner. A special guest artist will be with us. Stay tuned for more info.
Sept 14th Jock and the Dunbar family will share their final Sunday with St Marks, with a service of closure taking place at the 6pm service. Come along as we give thanks to God for our time in life and ministry together, saying “till next we meet.”

 

July 1st – 3rd – Holiday Program

Three exciting days for children in Prep to Year 7. Activities included Masterchef Cooking, Craft, Games and

Competitions. Holiday program was held on Tues, Wed, Thurs July 1st –3rd from 9am – 3pm.
Total Cost was $60 for 3 great days of Fun

An activity of Broadwater Road & St Mark’s Uniting Churches.

 

June 22 – Family Picnic

A great outing was enjoyed after the morning service at Broadwater Park as we continued our tradition of meeting together for lunch and fellowship.

Easter Community Fun Day – Sunday 6 April from 9:30am to Lunch

This event was a new  initiative for St Marks, as we hosted a morning for the local and surrounding community  to explore the Christian meaning of Easter with us.  There was a free Donkey ride, face-painting, crafts and activities, plus songs and stories and a free sausage sizzle for lunch.  We enjoyed welcoming many new faces to the Easter Community Fun Day.

Ladies Night Off

Was an evening for ladies to escape the pre-Christmas madness for a few hours. It was held  on Tuesday 17th December from 7:30pm at St Mark’s Uniting Church (cnr Springwood & Hicks Sts, Mt Gravatt) – in the hal for a relaxing evening of crafting, chatter, coffee / tea / Chrissy drinks & nibbles.

St Marks Christmas Carols & Christmas Fair

was a great community event on Sunday 22 December. Christmas Fair was held in the hall  withh  free BBQ at 5.30pm and Carols on the Court , with some very special farm animal visitors at 6.00pm. There was Christmas baking goodies, food stalls, craft, community groups with stalls, vintage stall, good coffee.There was great community spirit and enjoyment and an evening of Carol Singing and celebration.

Financial Support provided to the Refugee Claimant Support Group

In September 2013, St Marks Uniting Church held its second Garage Sale of the year, and determined to give 50% of the proceeds to the Refugee Claimant Support Service, a service of UnitingCare Community.  At a worship service on Sunday, November 24th, a cheque for $2730 was presented to Ms Sue Muller, the Operations Manager of RCSS by the Chairperson of the congregation, Mr Phil Richardson.  We are committed to continuing our support for all kinds of people, including people seeking refuge.  We are encouraged by the support and generosity of the people of Mt Gravatt who have helped us to give away over $9000 during the last two years.  These donations have been given to people who have suffered as a result of natural disaster (flooding and bushfires), to homelss people (purchasing Streetswags), and to people seeking refuge. Election Day Cake Stall & BBQ – Saturday 7 September 2013

Come and vote at the St Marks Uniting Church and avoid the long lines at other polling booth locations.  Pick up some tasty cakes, biscuits, sweets and other home cooked goodies for the weekend.  A BBQ and sausage sizzle will also be available.  See you there – cnr Springwood and Hicks Streets, Mt Gravatt.

Dinners of Eight –  June, July, August, September 2013

The last dinner in the Dinners of Eight program will be held in September and is a great way to meet people from our church but don’t really know that well.  The dinners are held on Saturday nights and provide an opportunity for 8 people to share a meal at someone’s home.  Each of the dinners is with a different group of 8 people, at a different home and the participants each provided a portion of the meal.   The shared meal preparation makes this an easy way to enjoy a special meal together.

New regular weekly activity:  Social Games night

Held every Thursday night in 2013 the St Marks church hall building at cnr Springwood and Hicks Streets, Mt Gravatt.  From 7.30pm with supper.

Operation Christmas Child

Bringing smiles to children in poor areas of Australia and other countries by providing a shoe box of gifts that are distributed at Christmas by Samaritan’s Purse.  Donations of gift items can now be made in the gigantic box at St Marks Uniting Church till mid October.  Over 50 boxes were donated by the St Marks family in 2013.

St Marks Family Camp – Camp Drewe Lenox Head – 26 to 28 April 2013

Great family camp was held where we were able to sit back, relax, enjoy great company and reconnect with the Family of St Marks and God.  The daily program included devotions, group discussions, team activities and games…. and fantastic food. Camp Drewe is a great campsite and we will be returning there again next year. www.campdrewe.com.auCamp Drewe is a ministry of the Presbyterian Church. Set on 5 acres in coastal heathland one kilometre from Lennox Head, Camp Drewe is 600m from the fresh water haven of Lake Ainsworth and just a 200m walk to the surf.

The March Mega St Marks Community Garage Sale and Fete was another great community event and offered lots of bargains and great food.  The various stalls included books, bric-a-brac, kitchen wares, electrical, hardware, electronics, furniture, plants, clothing, toys, great coffee, bbq, face painting, jumping castle, therapeutic massage, and yummy cakes.  Through the fantastic community effort we raised funds of over $5,000 to provide assistance to victims of the QLD 2013 Flood via the Uniting Church Flood Appeal.  Well done again!  Watch out for the next Garage Sale coming up in September 2013.

Christmas Fair & Carols on the Court – 23 December 2012

What a beautiful day for the Christmas Fair where many ministry groups and community groups including some from St Marks Uniting and Broadwater Rd Uniting provided a wide variety of craft, clothing, gifts, jewellery, baking goods and Christmas goodies.  Some of the ministry groups were: Waitoto, Three:18, Timor Early Learning Network Fund, and Tear. Barista on Que and Piefection provided great coffee and pies to go with the free sausage sizzle.  The fair was followed by Christmas Carols on the court which 300 people attended.  The candles waving in the dark was a beautiful sight as we celebrated the approaching birthday of Jesus.   (click on images to enlarge)

Ladies Night Off  – December 2012

Thank you to all those who attended our recent Ladies Night Off craft night. $70 has been donated to the Christmas Bowl Appeal.

Refurbishment of the Church Building – November 2012

The refurbishment of the church building both interior and exterior was a long running project during all of 2012 and culminated in a service of thanksgiving on Christ the King Sunday.  The church has an updated look including all new paintwork inside and out, new carpet, sound equipment, AV equipment and foyer layout.  Come and visit, you’re most welcome.

St Marks Garage Sale –  1 September 2012

The September St Marks Garage Sale was a great community event and offered lots of bargains and great food.  The various stalls included books, bric-a-brac, kitchen wares, electrical, hardware, furniture, plant, clothing, toys, great coffee, bbq, face painting, therapeutic massage, devonshire teas and yummy cakes.  Through the fantastic community effort we raised funds to provide 38 Swags to help homeless people in Brisbane.  Well done.  Watch out for the next Garage Sale coming up in March 2013.

St Marks Uniting again took a contingent of 25 participants to the Global Leadership Summit (GLS) conference at Gateway Baptist church.  The Global Leadership Summit is a ministry of the Willow Creek church.  Refer to http://www.gls.org.au/ for more information re the GLS. The summit was a 2 day conference on Friday 26 October and Saturday 27 October. It was a very rewarding experience for those who attended, and the key sessions will be revisited in February 2013 during a workshop day where we examine how we can apply the key outcomes from the conference in our local church and community.

Switching on the Lights for St Pauls Soccer Club 2012
